Can’t start your day without your espresso shot? Here’s a few things you might like to know about your daily dose.
To begin with, this little brew takes its name from its country of origin where espresso means expressed, as when something is forced out. This named refers to the way espressos are made. If a traditional cup of coffee is realised only by using gravity, an espresso is created by forcing boiling water through pressed coffee grounds at a force reaching 132 pounds per square inch. Thanks to this method, you get your precious beverage in approximatively 25 seconds.
It takes around 50 coffee beans to prepare a shot of espresso. Otherwise a brewed espresso contains around 2.5% fat compared to 0.6% for a cup of filtered coffee.
If the famous little cups of espresso have already conquered the world, their consumption is still growing through the years. According to the NCDT (NCA’s 2016 National Coffee Drinking Trends) the daily consumption of beverages made from espressos has nearly tripled since 2008.
And since 2015, astronauts of the International Space Station can even brew their own fresh espresso in space. How cool is that?!
