How to Make a Good Plunger Coffee

Ingredients

• 18 grams of coarsely ground coffee

• 300 grams of filtered water

Equipment

• French press

• Timer

• Kettle

Instructions

1. Boil Water: Bring the filtered water to a boil in the kettle. Once boiled, let it sit for about 30 seconds to a minute to cool slightly. The ideal temperature for French press brewing is around 90-96 degrees Celsius (195-205 degrees Fahrenheit).

2. Preheat French Press: While the water is heating, preheat your French press by rinsing it with hot water. This helps maintain the brewing temperature.

3. Measure and Grind Coffee: Weigh out 18 grams of coffee beans and grind them coarsely. The grind size should be similar to breadcrumbs or coarse sea salt.

4. Add Coffee to French Press: Place the coarsely ground coffee into the bottom of the preheated French press.

5. Start Timer: Start your timer as soon as you begin pouring the water.

6. Bloom: Pour about 60 grams of hot water (just off the boil) over the coffee grounds, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Stir gently with a spoon or stirrer to ensure all the grounds are fully wet. Let the coffee bloom for about 30 seconds.

7. Add Remaining Water: After the bloom, slowly pour the remaining hot water into the French press in a circular motion, ensuring all the coffee grounds are submerged. Pour until you reach a total weight of 300 grams of water.

8. Stir and Place Lid: Give the coffee and water mixture a gentle stir to ensure all grounds are fully immersed. Place the lid on the French press, but do not plunge yet.

9. Steep: Let the coffee steep in the French press for about 4 minutes. During this time, the coffee will extract its flavors from the grounds.

10. Plunge: After 4 minutes have elapsed, slowly press down the plunger of the French press. Apply gentle and steady pressure to avoid agitation, which can lead to over-extraction.

11. Pour and Serve: Once the plunger is fully pressed down, pour the brewed coffee into your favorite mug or serving vessel.

12. Enjoy: Your French press coffee is now ready to be enjoyed! Take a moment to appreciate the rich aroma and flavor of your freshly brewed cup.

Feel free to adjust the coffee-to-water ratio, grind size, and steeping time to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy your delicious French press coffee!
